CPCS A36 Lorry Loader Course Description

The CPCS Lorry Loader training course has been designed for those who operate a lorry loader, also known as HIABs, lorry mounted cranes or lorry mounted loaders. This course ensures that operators are safely and completely trained to operate the machinery at all times.

There are a number of CPCS certification categories for this CPCS training course and as such candidates can be trained on the following:

  • A36A: Lorry Loader – Hook
  • A36B: Lorry Loader – Clamshell Bucket
  • A36C: Lorry Loader – Hydraulic Clamp

There are both Foundation and Experienced Worker courses available for this category of CPCS lorry loader training. Foundation courses last on average for 4 days and are best suited to those who are relatively new to the role, whereas Experienced Worker courses are for those with 2 years or more recent (and constant) experience and run for 2 days.

Both versions of these CPCS courses will finish with the CPCS theory and practical tests for this category; the practical test for the Lorry Loader must be completed within an hour and will consist of the candidate using the machine to complete a variety of activities and manoeuvres including lifting and placing loads.

Successful candidates will receive the CPCS Red Card (Trained Operator) endorsed with the Lorry Loader training category, valid for 2 years. To upgrade to the Blue Competence CPCS card, operators must then work towards their NVQ in Plant Operations within those 2 years.

Please note that candidates must have successfully completed the CSCS Health, Safety and Environment touchscreen test within the past two years.

Private individuals looking to undertake any CPCS course should read our guidelines for CPCS Training and the Private Individual before applying, as the implications are different to those of a CITB registered company.
